Kathy and Jordynne
Mentor Duluth pairs caring adults with kids who can benefit from positive role models.
Kathy and Jordynne have been matched for five months and have enjoyed getting to know one another. They were matched together because of their mutual love of art, cooking and being outdoors. The first activity they did together was a harbor cruise. Jordynne was a little uncertain at the thought of being on a boat on Lake Superior but would like to go again this summer.
At the end of the day, Jordynne told Kathy she felt like a new person because she had a mentor. That really sealed the deal for Kathy.
Jordynne's favorite activity so far has been going to Great Lakes Aquarium, and they both share a love for cooking and baking, which is some of their favorite times together.
When asked what advice she would give someone who is considering becoming a mentor, Kathy said, "Mentor Duluth has an impressive enrollment process, orientation session and provides support along the way. When we were matched, Jordynne and I were able to get acquainted during meetings with our program advocate prior to our first get-together and that was helpful. Several times I have run into a friend when I'm with Jordynne and they ask if she's my granddaughter. Before I can respond Jordynne tells them I'm her mentor. There are many kids waiting for a mentor so I encourage anyone interested to contact Mentor Duluth."
Whether taking train rides or harbor cruises, exploring all the sites and attractions on the Mentor Duluth activities pass or just hanging out and talking, Kathy and Jordynne have formed a strong bond in the five short months they've known each other.
