A Memorial Day ceremony takes place 9 a.m. on Monday, May 29 at the Gary New Duluth Community Center, 801 101st Ave. W. Veterans from Riverside, Smithville, Morgan Park, Gary New Duluth, Fond du Lac and Oliver, Wis. will be honored.
The Northland Memorial Day Parade in West Duluth dates back to 1871. At 10:30 a.m., parade units line up on 59th Avenue West between Raleigh Street and Grand Avenue. The parade begins around 12:30 p.m. No parking is allowed on Grand Avenue along the parade route. Motorists should be aware of detours and officers directing traffic.
Veterans for Peace Chapter 80 holds an observance 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. in Lake Place Park.
Veterans Memorial Hall hosts a public reception 2 p.m. on Tuesday, May 30 in the Depot, 506 W. Michigan St. in the Great Hall. The event celebrates the hall’s redesign to encompass all eras from the Civil War to present day. The website, vets-hall.org , holds more than 7,500 veterans’ stories.
