  • Duluth city councilors next week will consider how city police and community organizations should deal with sexual assault. Council members received a 106-page report yesterday from a six-member task force appointed by Mayor John Fedo to investigate violence against women and children.
  • Traffic will be heavy in downtown Duluth tonight with the Christmas City of the North parade, the UMD hockey game and the Duluth-Superior Symphony Orchestra concert all scheduled. Twenty-six police officers have been assigned to the downtown area to help deal with the crowds.

  • The Duluth Municipal Concert Guild has announced that Richard Strauss, the giant of modern music, will appear with soprano Elizabeth Schuman at the Armory on Dec. 19. Strauss will be appearing in only 33 American cities before returning to Germany in January.
  • The Head of the Great Lakes ore shipping season ended yesterday when the steamer Niagara left the Northern Pacific dock in Superior with the season's last cargo of ore. Local vessel men report that ice is rapidly forming on the bay.
