  • U.S. Steel's Minntac plant at Mountain Iron will begin four-day work weeks this Sunday because of low demand for taconite pellets. A company official said yesterday the plant will operate at about 60% of capacity for the rest of the year.
  • Fire investigators yesterday sifted through the remains of a downtown Duluth fire that gutted an 80-year-old building at 26-28 E. First St. No cause has yet been determined, but investigators now say the fire started at the rear of the first floor.

  • All Baptist churches in Duluth are uniting in what will be one of the largest evangelistic campaigns ever held by local Baptists. Three prominent speakers have been obtained to address congregations in the campaign, which will run from Oct. 16 through Nov. 6.
  • Former Duluthian Marguerite de la Motte is appearing with Douglas Fairbanks in the moving picture comedy "The Nut," shown beginning today at Duluth's Zelda Theater. De la Motte has appeared with Fairbanks in two other photoplays, "Arizona" and "The Mark of Zorro."
