  • George M. Peterson of the Duluth Retail Merchants Association announced yesterday that Duluth retail stores will remain open on Good Friday, March 25. The Duluth Interchurch Council had requested that stores in the city be closed from noon until 3 p.m.
  • Members of all eight Girl Scout troops of Duluth demonstrated their agility and Scout skills yesterday in a drill in the Armory. The first local Girl Scout troop was organized two years ago and yesterday was their first joint drill.
  • Miss Gertrude Barnes, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Julius Barnes of Duluth and New York City, was recently elected a member of Phi Beta Kappa at Vassar College. Miss Barnes, a senior, is editor of the school's weekly publication "The Vassarian."
  • Several of Duluth's young ladies who are attending school in the east are planning to join parties touring Europe this summer. Those already scheduled to sail in June are Misses Frances Sellwood, Mary McGiffert, and Helen and Virginia Fryberger.
