The beep is on for Rice Lake citizens and their smoke detectors. Last month, volunteer firefighters with Rice Lake Fire Department started a campaign to install new smoke alarms in residents' homes. So far, firefighters have installed a total of 130 smoke detectors in about 30 homes. American Red Cross is providing the alarms free-of-charge.
These fire-safety efforts will continue as long as the need persists, according to Rice Lake fire chief Mark Niemi. To have smoke alarms installed, visit ricelakefd.org/smoke-detectors.
