Duluth-Superior Pride Festival, an annual event held at Duluth's Bayfront Festival Park during Labor Day weekend, has been canceled, its committee announced in a news release Thursday.

"The committee felt the safety of our community members could not be guaranteed and didn’t feel it wise to take the risk of people becoming ill due to COVID 19," the release said.

The 33rd annual event was scheduled for Sept. 5.

The DS Pride committee is considering virtual versions of some of the arts-oriented events during the week of Sept. 3-7.
