The Duluth branch of the NAACP will host its 21st mask distribution event from 5-6:30 p.m. Thursday at the Central Hillside Community Center, 12 E. Fourth St., Duluth.
The NAACP's "mask team" has distributed as many as 10,000 masks since its first event on April 13. About 20 people, organizations and businesses have contributed to the distribution efforts, a news release said.
"The goal of our effort has been to provide personal protection to mitigate the risk from COVID-19 to the community’s Black, Indigenous and People of Color, who are disproportionately negatively impacted by the virus," the news release said. "We are accomplishing this objective by distributing free masks to everyone, prioritizing locations where we are more likely to connect with community members who are Black, Indigenous and People of Color."
Distribution events have also been held where people congregate, such as the University of Wisconsin-Superior, congregate housing, youth centers and faith communities.
