Since the Duluth Lions Club had to call off its annual pancake fundraising event this year, WDIO is partnering with the group to host a telethon all day Thursday, Sept. 10, to help spread awareness and raise money for the group's projects.

The telethon event will take place during each of the station's newscasts between 5 a.m. and 10:35 p.m.

To participate, anyone can call 877-949-0383 to donate, according to WDIO . Viewers are also encouraged to make pancakes at home.

The Duluth Lions Club Pancake Day is usually held in May at the Duluth Entertainment Convention Center, bringing in over 9,000 people and raising more than $50,000 for sight, hearing and diabetes needs in the region as well youth projects.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Lions Club initially postponed the event to Sept. 10. However, that too was canceled based on Minnesota Department of Health guidelines.

WDIO News Director Mike Schram said Lions Club members reached out to the station after they realized they wouldn't be able to hold the event.
