CHUM to reopen West Duluth food shelf location

Duluth News Tribune News Brief

After shutting down in March due to the pandemic, CHUM plans to reopen its West Duluth food shelf location Monday using a drive-thru model.

The food shelf, located at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, 4831 Grand Ave., will be open Mondays from 10 a.m. to noon or until all prepacked food boxes have been picked up, according to a news release from CHUM.

Prepacking the boxes is a step CHUM is taking to help keep people safe during the pandemic. The boxes include fresh produce, dairy, meat, bread and nonperishable food When picking up their boxes, people are asked to remain in their vehicles while staff and volunteers load food into the trunk. Those who do not have a vehicle can walk up, but must maintain a 6-foot distance from staff and volunteers.

Our Savior’s Lutheran Church will reevaluate the model on a monthly basis.
