Learn about theology and BYOB - Bring your own bag lunch and listen to diverse faith perspectives. CHUM has sponsored a theological reflection during the noon hour. Monthly conversations will be hosted in various locations. The community is invited to bring their own lunch and join in the conversation.

Closing the Circle: Social Action, Prayer, and Theological Reflection

This first meeting will be led by Rev. Bruce Johnson on Tuesday, July 14, from noon to 1 p.m. at Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Duluth, 835 W. College St.

At this brown-bag lunch, attendees will learn a simple and practical model for theological reflection, and apply it to the work done for CHUM and in other areas of their lives. How do we balance the inner and outer dimensions of spiritual practice as we move between action and contemplation?

Beauty in Worship

This meeting will be led by traveling scholar Audrey Seah on Tuesday, July 21, from noon to 1 p.m. at St. Michael's Catholic Church, 4901 E. Superior St.

Beauty is one of three transcendentals by which Christians throughout the ages have used to contemplate the mystery of God, and in doing so, render the infinite and invisible discernible to our finite natures. Thus, it is reasonable to expect beauty in worship, the locus of our encounter with the divine. But what should beauty look like in a diverse world where it is often said that beauty is in the eye of the beholder? Join the discussion of theological aesthetics, its relation to beauty in worship, and the practical challenges of worshipping beautifully.

Stay tuned for future Theology Brown Bag Lunch Opportunities and contact Courtney at Ccochran@chumduluth.org or (218) 740-2497 with questions or if you are interested in hosting.
