  • Mining companies in St. Louis County will pay more than $18 million in taxes in 1921, according to figures from Walter H. Borgen, county auditor. That will amount to 74.63% of total taxes to be collected in the county this year.
  • Paving projects involving an expenditure of more than $1 million are contemplated by the city of Duluth this year. Petitions of property owners for paving of streets totaling 45 blocks in all parts of the city have been approved by the City Council.
  • The Duluth Board of Realtors yesterday passed a resolution recommending the construction of a $1 million hotel in the city and pledging $100,000 toward the project. The resolution states that tourists currently visiting don't stay in Duluth because of inadequate hotel facilities.
  • Street carnivals will be banned in Superior during 1921 as the result of an ordinance passed by city commissioners yesterday. The ordinance was supported by many merchants and civic organizations and by a committee representing the Douglas County Women's Council.
