THE SHELTERS

Duluth's Animal Allies is now located at 4006 Airport Road (on the corner of Airport and Rice Lake roads) in its nearly $4 million Muriel Whiteside Animal Shelter, which opened for business March 17. Hours are noon to 6 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday. For more information about this shelter's animals, call 722-5341 or visit www.animalallies.net .

Across the bridge there are two options:

Animal Rescue Federation is located at 2225 Hill Ave. in Superior. Hours are noon to 6 p.m. Monday and Tuesday, noon to 4 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday or by appointment on Sundays. Call (715) 394-7387 or visit www.animalrescuefederation.com with any questions about ARF.

Just outside Superior off Highway 2 in South Range is the Humane Society of Douglas County, which is open daily from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and Wednesdays from 5 to 8 p.m. (If you've never been to this shelter, best type "3302 S.
