• The University of Wisconsin-Superior's Veteran and Nontraditional Student Center (VNSC) and Douglas County Veteran Services will host the Fifth annual Running for Our Heroes 5K Run/Walk, 9 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 29. Children 12 and younger can participate in a free quarter-mile race at 8:45 a.m. Registration fee: $35 per person and $20 per person for UWS students, military veterans and pre-kindergarten to 12th-grade students. Registration will be 7-8:30 a.m. on the day of the race at UW-Superior's Marcovich Wellness Center, 1810 Catlin Ave., and online at uwsuper.edu/heroes5k. Bring a non-perishable food item for donation and receive an extra entry into the prize drawing. All proceeds will benefit the Douglas County Soldiers and Sailors Relief Fund as well as the UWS VNSC.

Archery (Sept. 24-Nov. 12) 5:30-8 p.m. Mondays at Chalstrom's Indoor Archery Center on Rice Lake Road. Work one-on-one or in small groups with youth and adult participants to assist/teach the fundamentals of archery and range safety. Basic archery experience preferred (beginner, intermediate or advanced skills).

Power Wheelchair Soccer (Sept. 25-Nov. 13) 5:45-7 p.m. Tuesdays at Laura MacArthur Elementary School. Assist coaches with facilitating practice drills for power wheelchair soccer participants. No experience needed, familiarity with soccer and a sense of fun is helpful.

Youth Swimming Lessons (Oct. 10-Nov. 14) 5-6:15 p.m. Wednesdays at the YMCA Downtown Duluth. Assist youth in swim lessons led by a certified YMCA swimming instructor. No experience needed but should be a confident swimmer and enjoy working with children.

Yoga - Fall Session I (Sept. 24-Nov. 1)

Help adults living with a disability experience the benefits of yoga. Classes are led by certified adaptive yoga instructors. Assist participants by adapting the poses to their abilities. New volunteer training 5-6:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 20, at CSS Health Services.
