The William Kelley High School Class of 1973 celebrated their 45th reunion July 13-15 at the Silver Bay Recreation Building. Most remembered the building as the “old skating rink warming house” where they first learned to skate on two outdoor rinks.

“You look wonderful” was an oft-heard remark from classmates who graduated when Richard Nixon was president; the Vietnam War was ending; Minnesota state college tuition averaged $2,340 per year; and the Eagles, John Lennon and Led Zeppelin topped music charts.  Conversations focused on retirement plans, aging or deceased parents, health insurance costs and grandchildren. And, there was plenty of talk and laughter about school antics, former teachers and North Shore experiences.

One classmate said: “No matter how long it’s been, it’s great to return home. I spent K-12 with these folks, I knew their families, and it’s been wonderful to connect face-to-face, not just through Facebook.”
