College football: Bulldogs spring into action

UMD spring football practice began on Monday. The annual Maroon and White game is April 22.

DULUTH — The temperatures didn’t even reach freezing, but that didn’t stop the Minnesota Duluth football team from taking to the field Monday at Malosky Stadium.

The field had been cleared of the snow covering, but piles remained at the edges at the Bulldogs took to their home field for the first time since they left for their NCAA Division II playoff game against Angelo State Nov. 20 in San Angelo, Texas.

The Bulldogs’ 15-game spring practice season culminates with their annual Maroon-White Spring Game at 5:30 p.m. April 22 at Malosky Stadium.

UMD is coming off a 9-3 season. The Bulldogs captured their 21st NSIC title and made their 12th NCAA Division II playoff appearance.
