Two Harbors Chamber gets stay for sign

The Two Harbors Chamber of Commerce has received a stay until October on its billboard removal order from the Minnesota Department of Transportation, president Gordy Anderson reported.

The Two Harbors Chamber of Commerce has received a stay until October on its billboard removal order from the Minnesota Department of Transportation, president Gordy Anderson reported.

He said there are plans to get the order stayed for at least another tourism season.

Representatives from the chamber and city met with a MnDOT ombudsman last month to vent frustration with the notice to remove the chamber's "welcome" sign on the west end of Two Harbors along Highway 61.

Anderson argues that because there are just two signs out of compliance along the designated scenic road, there should be some relief granted through some kind of variance or exception. He received a 60-day notice to remove the sign in early April.

The multi-member sign brings in about $7,500 a year in revenue for the chamber.
