The bears at Lake Superior Zoo in Duluth have a newly renovated exhibit.

The $3.8 million project, constructed by Kraus-Anderson, included renovations of the existing bear den holding areas, adjacent black and brown bear exhibit areas and existing holding building.

The black bear exhibit was first built in 1930 and had been closed for more than 10 years. The new exhibit was designed by DSGW Architects.

The brown bear exhibit, designed by HGA Architects, renovated the former Polar Shores exhibit, which closed following the 2012 flood. This project is expected to be complete by the end of September.
