The Beargrease Sled Dog Marathon will be followed electronically for the first time, with tracking technology enabling race lovers to follow the race on their computers.
People will be able to easily follow the progress of their favorite mushers. All the teams taking part in this year's race will be equipped with GPS technology, tracking their every move along the 374-mile course.
"The acquisition of GPS technology will move the Beargrease into a new era," Jason Rice, president of the John Beargrease Sled Dog Marathon, said in a news statement. "Were going to know where marathoners are at around the clock, and so will the public."
This up-to-the-minute tracking on each musher racing along the course from Duluth to Gunflint Lake then back to Duluth can be done online at beargrease.com.
The race is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 26 at Duluth East High School.
