A free job-training workshop on sustainable business practices will be held in Duluth next week.

The GreenPOWER Generalist workshop will be held Oct. 14 at the Minnesota Workforce Center in the Government Services Center, 320 W. Second St., Suite 205.

The course teaches workers and job seekers how manufacturers and companies can increase their profits by operating more sustainably and how they can market themselves for green jobs.

The workshop's overview of sustainable business practices includes ways to reduce waste in production, conserve water, lower energy costs, control and limit air pollution and dispose of chemicals properly.

"These are skills that businesses will need going forward in the green economy and will help unemployed Minnesotans get back to work," Brant

The Duluth workshop is one of several being held around the state in October and November, the result of a partnership between the BlueGreenAlliance Foundation and Minnesota's work force centers.

The green economy is growing in Minnesota, and these workshops will give job candidates a competitive edge, especially with companies that are

environmentally conscious, said Mark Phillips, commissioner of the state's

Department of Employment and Economic Development.
