Stewart-Taylor Printing of Duluth is looking ahead with its recent purchase of a young digital printing company, also of Duluth.

The 140-year-old Stewart-Taylor announced this week that it has acquired 1-year-old Image Tech for an undisclosed sum.

"We need to diversify as we look into the future," said Bill Olson, Stewart-Taylor's vice president of sales and marketing. "Everything is going digital, and we see this as a way to grow our business."

Image Tech produces blueprints and other architectural documents, offers digital duplication services, and also handles direct mailing campaigns. As a result of the purchase, Stewart-Taylor also will expand its capabilities to produce vinyl and paper banners, four-color T-shirts and photographs. The company expects to expand soon into the production of mousepads, coasters, bibs, towels and other items.

Stewart-Taylor inherits two employees with the acquisition, bringing its total work force to 23 people.
