A semi that rolled over in a roundabout closed part of U.S. Highway 2 in Bayfield County for about six hours on Saturday.

The Bayfield County Sheriff's Office reported that a semi driven by John Stahley, 54, of St. Paul, was westbound on Highway 2 at about 7:30 a.m. Saturday when he lost control in the roundabout at the junction with Wisconsin Highway 13 west of Ashland.

Stahley told authorities that he was unfamiliar with the intersection configuration; the roundabout was installed there last year. He attempted to negotiate his semi and trailer through the curve and exit of the roundabout, but the trailer overturned as he left the roundabout.

Stahley was wearing a seat belt and was not injured. He was cited for inattentive driving, the sheriff's office reported.

Traffic was detoured from the roundabout as crews worked to remove the semi and trailer. The road reopened at about 1:30 p.m.
