The last Saturn car moved off the floor last week and Saturn of Duluth closed its doors permanently at 4 p.m. Friday.

General Motors announced last year that it would end production of the troubled Saturn brand, cutting off supply to 350 dealers nationwide. The stores have remained open to sell remaining inventory.

Brian Gilchrist, spokesman for the Evergreen Group of dealerships that owned Saturn of Duluth, said the dealership's 13 employees have been placed at other dealerships in the chain.

Meanwhile, Gilchrist expects to find a new car company to move into the Saturn lot.

"We are aggressively pursuing new franchises to fill that space, and we expect to have something open within six to 12 months," Gilchrist said.

The Avis Direct franchise located at the Saturn facility has been moved to the Northstar Ford dealership at the Miller Hill Mall, which also is owned by the Evergreen Group, Gilchrist said.

Saturn customers are being directed to any remaining GM dealership for service needs.
