Gannucci's Italian Market in West Duluth will not be reopening, as confirmed by a full business liquidation auction posted Aug. 15 by Nordic Auction.

The restaurant had been temporarily closed, despite going into the COVID-19 pandemic with a positive outlook. Owner Bill Kalligher told the News Tribune in March 2020 he was not worried about the family business' survival.

“You’re going to think I’m nuts, but we started from nothing, and if it goes away, we will do something else,” Kalligher said last year. “We’re all in the same place together. I have hope that it’s going to be glorious on the other end of this.”

The restaurant and market was established in the mid-1970s as "Conito's Italian Village," and was renamed to "Gannucci's Italian Market" in 2011 to honor the family's great-grandfather, Vito Gannucci.

Gannucci's sold pizza, pasta, sandwiches and other imported Italian fare.

Food Network's Guy Fieri featured the establishment in 2014 on "Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives," where he sampled the lasagna and muffuletta.

The Nordic Auction business liquidation, which advertises the sale of the complete kitchen, all food stock, displays, coolers, dining room furniture and decor, begins at 4 p.m. Aug. 25 at Gannucci's, 301 N. Central Ave.
