Owners of a string of Iron Range restaurants are adding a Duluth location.
Jessica and Erik Lietz will open a Boomtown restaurant in the former Sunset Bar and Grill building, located at 4483 Martin Road, in the spring, likely near the time of the Minnesota fishing opener.
"It's only about five minutes from everything (in Duluth)," Jessica Lietz said. "I don't think anybody else is really doing anything quite like that (nearby), so I think it's going to be a big hit."
The new location will be similar to its other locations, offering American food, drinks and a Sunday mimosa bar – which Lietz said many have asked for on a Facebook post announcing the new location.
The space, however, does need some updating, she said.
"It just needed a little bit of a facelift," she said. "There hasn't been any ... type of remodel since 1997 when it was built."
They're familiar with renovating existing restaurants, as they've done it for their other locations, Lietz said.
And its name, Boomtown, alludes to the mining boom that occurred in the region at the turn of the century, Lietz said.
"A lot of Duluth was built on that, so I think it's kind of cool to tie the two together," she said.
They expect to hire around 75 people to staff the restaurant, she said. Hiring will start later this year, and people can stay updated on hiring and its exact opening by following its Facebook page.
