The Minnesota Public Utilities Commission on Friday approved the proposed route for the Enbridge Line 3 oil pipeline replacement.
The company and the Fond du Lac Band of Lake Superior Chippewa announced an agreement on the route in August that would see the replacement line cross the reservation on its route from Alberta to the Enbridge terminal in Superior - as the existing Line 3 does now.
The PUC officially granted the certificate of need for the 338-mile pipeline in September after giving initial approval at a contentious meeting in June.
The controversial pipeline is set to replace the 50-year-old Line 3 by the end of 2019 and carry 760,000 barrels of oil per day. The replacement pipeline will largely follow a new route across Minnesota between Clearwater and the Wisconsin border.
