The pilot of a light plane that made an emergency landing and flipped over in Clinton Township on Friday was uninjured, and his passenger suffered only a small cut.
The St. Louis County Sheriff's Office said the plane, flown by James Chuk, 59, of Chisholm, struck a barbed-wire fence in a farm field and flipped over as Chuk was making an emergency landing about 10 miles east of Hibbing.
Chuk told officers his cockpit filled with smoke after an apparent engine failure, and he was forced to land.
The only injury was to his passenger, Christian Werdier, 39, of Keewatin, who received a minor cut as he got out of the overturned plane.
The Federal Aviation Administration will investigate the incident, police said.
