Domestic steel mills in November shipped 8.6 million net tons of steel, an 8.7 percent increase compared to a year ago, according to the American Iron and Steel Institute.
November 2006 shipments were 7.9 million net tons.
However, November 2007 shipments were down 6 percent from 9.2 million net tons shipped in October, according to the institute.
On a year-to-date basis, shipments through November were down 9.4 percent to service centers and distributors;down 3 percent to construction and contractors' products; and down 9.2 percent for oil and gas products. Shipments to the automobile industry were up 0.5 percent.
