Just in time for the holidays, Superior offers a new spot where people can celebrate.
The grand opening for Average Joe's Pub kicks off at 2 p.m. Friday, Dec. 21. Or, get a sneak peek of the space at 1310 N. Fifth St. during its soft opening Thursday, Dec. 20, from 4-10 p.m.
Although the name says "average," owner Mike Lemon has planned his new business to be anything but.
"We're hoping to stand out," Lemon said, by catering to a wide variety of patrons.
Four large TVs will offer sports programming, including UFC fights. But it's not just a sports bar.

The pub offers patrons a chance to test their skills with a pool and pingpong table, bubble hockey and darts.
"I'm going to hit all aspects," Lemon said, including live music on Fridays. He plans to book bands such as local musicians John Seguin and Andy Hauswirth to play earlier gigs from around 6-10 p.m.
Lemon is also coordinating a dodgeball league. Anyone interested in putting a team together should contact Average Joe's Pub.
The 21-and-over bar has six employees. Lemon is still seeking a cook and part-time help for the early shift.
He will continue to own and operate the Rex Bar at Fitger's in Duluth, but said the time was right to seize this new opportunity in Superior.
"I love Duluth, but I'm telling you - Superior's definitely changing," Lemon said. "It's going in the right direction. It's very business-friendly. I've never been treated so nicely by a city."
Although food will be added in future, the business will open mostly as a pub, with possible food specials. Craft beer enthusiasts will find Earth Rider and Castle Danger beer on tap. Lemon is friends with Earth Rider's Tim Nelson, another Duluth transplant.
"I think he's seeing what I'm seeing," Lemon said. "You've got a lot of growth going on."

The Twin Ports offers many bar options, but Lemon said there's a niche for a new bar that offers something different.
"There's room for all of us," he said.
