Duluth’s first craft brewery has new owners.

Lars Kuehnow and Lisa Blade are taking 23-year-old Lake Superior Brewing to the “next phase,” the brewery announced Tuesday, as founding owners Don and Jo Hoag, John Judd III, Karen Olesen and Dale Kleinschmidt step aside.

“We want to grow, and that’s our plan,” Blade said. “And the beer is just so good - how could we not just shout it from the rooftops?”

Don Hoag said the brewing team and new owners “will only strengthen the rock-solid base of beer knowledge and experience LSB already brings to the table.”

Blade said the beer and the people brewing it won’t change - Kleinschmidt will stay on as brewmaster with Charles Fuller remaining in charge of brewery operations. But she said if you hadn’t heard of Lake Superior Brewing before, you will soon.

“We’re going to step up marketing and events and reconnect with distribution markets, get it out more aggressively,” Blade said.

The Lincoln Park brewery at 2711 W. Superior St. will host a Halloween party Oct. 27 to introduce the community to the new owners.
