A new Duluth-based craft distillery more than five years in the making has landed on shelves in the Northland.
Duluth Whiskey Project now has three blended whiskeys - mint, cider and honey - available at Mt. Royal Bottle Shop and Super One Liquor locations across northern Minnesota, with aged products and more varieties promised in the future.
Founder and distiller Kevin Evans helped build Duluth's Vikre Distillery and wanted to further his passion by crafting "a whiskey that's worthy of the name, Duluth."
He characterizes his products as "brisk, lively and flavorful as his hometown - while being as warm and welcoming as the people who live there." He also said prices will be "approachable."
"I'd like to strike a balance in the price-quality relationship. Price should not be the only indication of quality," Evans said in a news release.

The distillery currently shares space with Vikre in Canal Park. Duluth Whiskey Project is eyeing a move to its own location at some point as demand increases.
