MnDOT reveals construction plans

The Minnesota Department of Transportation announced details of its 2013 state highway construction program today. Included in the list are 34 new or continued projects in District 1, which covers Northeastern Minnesota.

The Minnesota Department of Transportation announced details of its 2013 state highway construction program today. Included in the list are 34 new or continued projects in District 1, which covers Northeastern Minnesota.

"This will be another big year for road construction in Northeastern Minnesota," District 1 Engineer Duane Hill said. "MnDOT's road construction program includes approximately $97 million in new projects and $29 million in carryover work from last year."

The state highway projects in District One are:

Highway 1

Location: Murphy City

Description: Raise grade and resurface the road, replace culvert.

Cost: $450,000

Date: June-September

Impact: Intermittent, single-lane, flagger-controlled

Highway 1

Location: South of Ely between Forest Roads 553 and 424.

Description: A continuing project to rebuild five miles of highway. Remaining work includes re-establish turf, stripe road

Total cost: $7.1 million; $70,000 this year
