Up to 72 ounces of alcohol in factory-sealed containers can now be sold alongside takeout food at Hermantown restaurants.
The Hermantown City Council passed an ordinance allowing businesses with liquor licenses to apply for off-sale liquor licenses. The ordinance expires when Gov. Tim Walz lifts his stay-at-home order, according to a news release.
Several Hermantown businesses raised the issue at an earlier pre-agenda City Council meeting. Since that meeting, Walz and the legislature passed a similar measure that allows restaurants to serve sealed beer and wine with takeout orders, the release reads.
As Hermantown has a population of less than 10,000 people, it can issue on-sale and off-sale liquor licenses in accordance with a state statute.
Businesses that receive off-sale licenses must follow all pertinent laws and regulations, the release reads.
