The CEO and president of St. Luke’s will retire - but not for another year.

John Strange, who has been with the health care system for more than a quarter century, will retire in July 2019, according to a St. Luke’s news release.

Strange joined St. Luke’s as chief financial officer and vice president of finance in 1992 after 14 years at Memorial Hospital in Burlington, Wis. After four years in that position, he was asked to serve as interim president and CEO, and after another year he was elevated to that position permanently.

The St. Luke’s board has formed a transition team to guide the national search for a new leader, according to the news release. Brian Murphy, the board chairman, said he and Strange will work together to ensure a smooth transition.
