Glensheen extends 'Obscura' exhibit

The Glensheen Mansion in Duluth is extending its "Obscura" exhibit from Sept. 1 to Oct. 31.

Glensheen bills "Obscura," which debuted June 4 , as one of its "most eccentric and popular exhibits to date."

The mansion’s keepers developed the exhibit idea when they conducted a full inventory of the Congdon collection five years ago. Pieces include bison fur blankets, century-old toys and items procured by the Congdons during their world travels.

Glensheen announced in a news release it is extending self-guided tour hours this weekend to offer guests more opportunities to see "Obscura" and to optimize proper physical distancing:

• Friday, 9 a.m.-5 p.m.
• Saturday and Sunday, 9 a.m.-7 p.m.
• Monday, 9 a.m.-5 p.m.

The mansion's Cider Shack will be open from noon-5 p.m. every Saturday through October. The lakeside stand sells beverages from Duluth Cider and Wild State Cider, fall-themed cocktails and cider for kids.

Glensheen is hosting "The Alice in Wonderland Characters and Cards Search" during tour hours Sept. 1-30. Adults and kids are invited to search for 18 Alice in Wonderland caricatures and jumbo playing cards throughout the estate.

Guests who have found all 18 caricatures and cards will receive an Honorary Wonderland Member temporary tattoo.

Glensheen is only offering self-guided tours, at reduced capacity, due to COVID-19 concerns. All guests and staff must wear masks indoors regardless of vaccination status.
