Vermillion Gold plans more exploratory digs in Minnesota
Vermillion Gold Inc. is continuing its search for Northland gold.
The Minneapolis-based company proposed sampling soil at 15 sites in St. Louis County near Gilbert and Virginia, according to plans submitted to the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources last week.
If approved by the DNR, Vermillion Gold would have the right to explore state-owned lands outlined in its exploration plan and must coordinate with private landowners for access. The sites would be accessible by foot and the samples taken by hand, according to the plans.
Vermillion Gold has been looking for gold in that area since 2007.
Last month, the DNR approved AngloGold Ashanti’s plans for more exploratory borings in its search for gold.
The South African-based company proposed 26 drill sites in northeastern Itasca County.
