The  Duluth Airport Authority recently boosted airport director Thomas Werner’s annual salary to $101,000.
Authority members approved a 3.1 percent pay raise for Werner at its January meeting.
The vote came after a 70-minute closed-door session last month, during which board members evaluated Werner’s performance.
“We feel very strongly that Tom is doing an excellent job,” board President Mike Lundstrom said after the board reconvened.
The board approved the 3.1 percent raise for 2015 as well as $5,000 in compensation for Werner.
Werner became executive director of the Duluth Airport Authority in late 2012 after serving as interim director for several months. He succeeded former executive director Brian Ryks who moved on to become director of the Gerald R. Ford Airport in Grand Rapids, Mich.
Werner, who has been at the Duluth International Airport since 1999, previously was the airport’s operations director.
Werner’s salary was $98,000 in 2014, up from $95,000 in 2013, according to the airport authority.
The authority’s seven-member board oversees major issues and decisions affecting the Duluth International and Sky Harbor airports.
