Gov. Mark Dayton will host a town hall meeting in Nashwauk on Monday to discuss the Mesabi Metallics project.
Mesabi Metallics interim CEO Gary Heasley and officials from the Iron Range Resources and Rehabilitation Board and the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources will join the governor at the town hall, which is open to public. The event will update residents on the project, according to news release. A question-and-answer period will follow.
"Lately, discussions have been infected by too much wrong information and false claims," Dayton said Thursday in a statement. "That is why it is important to have this conversation and answer questions about the State's ongoing efforts to help the project succeed."
Mesabi Metallics and the state remain in a feud with Cleveland-Cliffs over the project. Both companies own land and want to mine at the site, but only Mesabi Metallics has a permit to mine.
"The State of Minnesota will continue to do everything possible to complete this project's construction, begin its operations, and provide good new jobs for the Iron Range," Dayton said.
