The Damiano Center is looking for a new executive director as the nonprofit, based at 206 W. Fourth St., has been without one since the end of June.

“We’ve tried to broadcast the search as far and wide as possible,” said Damiano board president John Kelly. “The search is going to take as long as it takes, but we hope to have somebody in place by the end of October.”

Kelly said policy prohibited him from discussing the reason for the vacancy in the center’s top role.

Former Executive Director Christina Woods did not have a comment on her former role or departure when reached and wished the center luck in its search.

The Damiano Center has for 35 years offered emergency meals, clothing, children’s programming and other assistance for community members in need.

Kelly said the ideal leader will have nonprofit experience with a “solid command of finances.”

“Part of the challenge of finding leadership is you’ve got a kitchen, clothing exchange, kids cafe, all these different things going on,” he said. “It’s a learning curve.”

The position was posted in early August and applications will be accepted through Sept. 6.

The board will consider its initial round of applicants next week.
