A well-known convenience store at the foot of the Interstate 535 bridge in Superior is closing its doors Friday, and a 50 percent off sale was drawing crowds Thursday afternoon.

Germann's Hammond Spur, a Calumet gas station at 502 Hammond Ave., was lovingly known as the "Chicken Spur" for its fast-food deals. The store had recently adjusted its hours and prices to compete with the new Kwik Trip that opened down the street.

The store plans to open at 7 a.m. Friday and hopes to sell out its inventory, according to a busy cashier who answered the phone Thursday.
