  • Duluth-based Maurices confirmed yesterday it has agreed to buy the vacant Wahl's department store building at 117 W. Superior St. and will convert most of the four-story structure into office space. The downtown landmark has been vacant since August 1987.
  • The Duluth-Superior port unofficially closed for business yesterday as the Indiana Harbor left bound for Ashtabula, Ohio, marking an early end to the 1989 shipping season.
