• Carol Hall of Duluth was hired as a real estate agent by Real Estate Services in Duluth. Hall has 12 years of real estate experience.

• Twin Ports Real Estate Team of Re/Max 1 hired agent Ryan Bayless, a graduate of University of Minnesota Duluth with a bachelor's in communication.

• Hartel's/DBJ Disposal Cos. in Proctor named Kevin and Valeree Hartel as partners.
Kevin has worked with Hartel's for seven years and is currently a route manager. He holds a bachelor's degree in business management and marketing from the College of St. Scholastica.
Valeree, presently Hartel's office and customer support manager, has been with her family's business for six years. She earned her bachelor's degree in accounting from the University of Wisconsin-Superior.

• Visit Cook County received three awards during the Explore Minnesota annual conference in St. Paul. Executive director Linda Jurek was named a rising star, and two events - Lutsen 99er and Storm Fest - were also awarded. No organization has previously received that many awards in one conference by Explore Minnesota.

• Halvor Lines was listed as one of the Best Fleets to Drive For for the fifth consecutive year by CarriersEdge and Truckload Carriers Assoc. The Superior trucking and logistics company was selected to the 20-carrier list for having provided exemplary work environments for their professional truck drivers and employees.

• Duluth consulting firm MSA Professional Services and the City of Duluth were given the Engineering Excellence Honor Award by the American Council of Engineering Companies of Minnesota. MSA and the City were recognized for their work in reconstructing the city's Lift Station 8, which pumps wastewater from Park Point.

• A.G. Thomson House was named to Tripadvisor's list of Top Bed and Breakfasts and Inns in the United States, ranking 21 out of more than 17,000 B&Bs. The Duluth bed and breakfast was chosen based on reviews from global travelers, noting its level of service, quality and value.

• Century 21 Gilderman and Associates announced Michele Vesel was named top sale agent in January.

BOARD APPOINTMENTS

• Duluth Housing and Redevelopment Authority announced three new members were elected to its Board of Commissioners including chair Phil Rolle, vice chair Rachel Johnson and secretary Michael Talarico.

CERTIFICATIONS AND ACCREDITATIONS

• Young and Associates announced Barb Nelson, a commercial account manager, was designated as a Certified Insurance Service Representative. To earn the certification, Nelson passed five insurance education courses and exams.
