BIZ blog: Do welcome students, chamber sez
It won't be long before that wave of college students return to the Duluth area for the school year.
About 26,000 of them, according to the Duluth Chamber of Commerce. And for local retailers, restaurants, bars, housing, and service industries , it means business. Big business.

"It makes sense, and cents, then to openly and enthusiastically embrace our college students," Chamber President David Ross said in an e-mail to organization members.
So the chamber is encouraging its 1,100 members to display a "Welcome College Students" poster in a prominent place at their businesses. Member should have received the posters in their August chamber newsletter. Extra posters are available at the chamber office at 15 W. First St. downtown.
"Our goal is to clearly convey to our college students how much we value them," Ross wrote. And if we're successful, Ross continued, maybe more college grads will remain in Duluth.
"Our future depends on it," he said.
