Carla Jean Bailey is the new Senior Minister at Duluth’s Pilgrim Congregational Church UCC. She has served the United Church of Christ in many capacities - mostly as Senior Minister to churches in New England and Minnesota.
For twenty years ending in 2015, Bailey was Senior Pastor at the Church of Christ at Dartmouth College in Hanover NH. While in that position, she managed to get her Juris Doctor from the Vermont Law School.
More recently Carla served as Senior Minister for Plymouth Congregational Church in Minneapolis, and The Second Church in Newton, MA.
Born in Madison, WI, Carla grew up in Ashland, where her father was President of Northland College. She graduated from United Theological Seminary (UTS) of the Twin Cities with Master of Divinity in 1981. Five years later she returned to UTS and attained a Doctorate of Ministry.
A believer in an activist church which works to achieve social and environmental justice, where ever she was called, Carla assumed a prominent role in addressing social issues in the community. In fact, she obtained a law degree to make herself a more effective advocate for the less fortunate.
A member of the Minnesota Bar since 2015, Carla received the Distinguished Alum Award from United Theological Seminary in 1995 and an Honorary Doctor of Divinity from Lakeland College in 1993.
Pilgrim Congregational Church UCC is located at 2310 E 4TH Street in Duluth. Sunday worship is at 10 AM.
