Dr. Jay Allen, a family medicine physician specializing in obstetrics, is welcoming new patients at the Essentia Health-Lakewalk Clinic.
“I have always appreciated a holistic approach to healthcare. I found through my schooling that I was never satisfied with the answer of having patients talk to a different doctor for their issue. There is so much more to a person than their heart, lungs or brain,” Dr. Allen said. “I find beauty in how all of human body’s systems flourish together and yet caring for a person means so much more than just treating their physical health, but also their emotional and spiritual health.”
Dr. Allen earned his medical degree at the University of Minnesota Medical School in Minneapolis, Minn. He completed his residency in family medicine and obstetrics at Sioux Falls Medicine Residency in Sioux Falls, S.D.
“The word doctor originally meant teacher. My approach to medicine centers around this,” Dr. Allen explained. “The health care system is difficult enough to navigate as it is. My role as a primary care provider is to educate my patients on what’s going on with their bodies and help guide them through each stop of their care.”
