U.S. Water Services, an industrial water management company owned by Duluth-based Allete Inc., announced Friday it has purchased a Southern California water treatment company.
Water & Energy Systems Technology Inc., or WEST, produces water treatment chemicals and engineering services for commercial and industrial customers.
Allete, also the parent company of Minnesota Power, says the purchase expands U.S. Water's presence in California and grows the company's capabilities.
"The addition of WEST to the U.S. Water family broadens our national footprint by adding a production facility in this part of the country and also strengthens our reach in several key industries," Allan Bly, U.S. Water CEO, said in a statement.
The sale price was not disclosed.

Allete bought a majority stake in U.S. Water, based in St. Michael, Minn., for $168 million last year. The company provides chemical treatment, equipment production and engineering services for more than 4,000 industrial customers throughout the country.
