Discount grocer Aldi will open its doors Wednesday in the Village Mall at 1724 Mall Dr. in Duluth before a grand opening Thursday.
Long in the works and under construction in the strip mall’s parking lot throughout the summer, the store’s grand opening will offer giveaways, contests and a ribbon-cutting at 8:25 a.m. Thursday.
“We’re thrilled to join the Duluth community and offer customers the benefits of the Aldi shopping experience,” Matt Lilla, Faribault division vice president for Aldi, said in a news release. “Our stores are simple to navigate, so it’s easy for shoppers to get in, get what they need and continue on with their day knowing they left with a shopping cart full of groceries that fit their lifestyle and save them money.”
The chain is known for its inexpensive house brands, requiring customers to bag their own groceries and a quarter deposit for shopping carts. Aldi hopes to open another 900 stores over the next five years in the U.S., the company said in the release, bringing the nationwide total to 2,500.
Aldi will be open in Duluth from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. seven days a week. The German grocer opened in Superior in 2015 and also has a location in Grand Rapids.
