FARGO, N.D. - The 200th episode of AgweekTV will air on Saturday, Oct. 25.

Forum Communications Company CEO Bill Marcil Jr. in June 2014 asked Jim Manney, director of video content for Forum Communications Company, to start putting a team of people together to launch AgweekTV.

“No one covers ag like Agweek Magazine, so it made sense to take that experience and expertise to a TV and video format,” Manney says.

At the beginning, the team was Manney; videographer and producer, Trevor Peterson; AgweekTV’s first anchor Shawna Olson; and the reporters of Agweek Magazine, which expanded from 30 years of print reporting to add television into the weekly routine.

“We worked closely with the Agweek sales team to create a unique show that not only highlighted ag news but the people who live in our rural areas,” Manney says. “We launched the show on WDAY/WDAZ but now Agweek TV can be seen statewide in North Dakota, South Dakota and across Canada.”

The show first aired Jan. 11, 2015, and has continued to air every week since then.

“I remember how nervous and excited we all were when the first episode aired,” Manney says. “You never know how a new show will be received, and now to be producing our 200th episode is really gratifying.”

The show has continued to grow. Agweek publisher and general manager Katie Pinke joined the team in 2016 and oversees all content. Nationally recognized ag journalist Michelle Rook started as AgweekTV anchor earlier this year, and veteran anchor Rose Dunn serves as a fill-in anchor and a producer. More videographers and editors work on the show, as well as the Agweek Magazine team.

“As AgweekTV has grown, so has our team and content coverage. The show reports agriculture issues, policy, markets and weather and tells the stories of farmers, ranchers and rural communities that may not otherwise be told. It’s a weekly team effort that includes strong advertiser support, and one we are working to grow across the Upper Midwest,” Pinke says.

Advertisers on the show have enjoyed watching its progression as well.

“Working with AgweekTV has been a great experience. They exceeded my expectations in multiple ways. The 30-second commercial they put together for us was top-notch quality. That's what we expect at Butler and they delivered. I'd recommend AgweekTV to anybody,” says Kelly Schulz of Bulter Machinery Co.

Peterson has worked on the show from the beginning, doing a variety of tasks, including videography, producing, editing and writing.

“To think that we started AgweekTV from scratch four years ago and now have reached our 200th show is pretty amazing,” Peterson says. “It's a credit to so many people. To be able to shine a light on the ag events, stories and people of our vast agricultural region has really been a treat.”
