The Aerial Lift Bridge will adopt its summer schedule next Friday, May 25.
Between 7 a.m. and 9 p.m., the bridge will lift only on the hour and half-hour marks for vessels smaller than 300 gross tons. The bridge will bend its schedule only for large ships, government watercraft, tugboats, pilot boats and vessels in distress.
The U.S. Coast Guard approved the lift schedule last year to help reduce traffic congestion during the peak navigation and tourist seasons.
Boaters are reminded that they are to keep speeds slow enough (under 5 mph) that they create no wake in the Duluth Ship Canal, unless a higher speed is necessary to maintain control or to avoid a collision.
