WDIO-TV has hired a new news director.

Mike Schram, who comes from WEYI in Flint, Mich., will start Sept. 30, according to Debra Messer, WDIO’s general manager. The station made an offer to Schram in late August, Messer said.

He replaces Steve Goodspeed, who was let go in June after 27 years leading WDIO’s news department. Schram, who grew up in suburban Detroit, has been at WEYI since 2013. Before that, he was an executive producer at WISH in Indianapolis; news director at KAAL in Austin and Rochester, Minn.; and he held positions at WLNS in Lansing, Mich., and WJRT in Flint.

Schram graduated from Michigan State University in 1996 and holds a bachelor’s degree in journalism.
